Polish Cuisine | #1 | Beverages

Poland won my heart with its history, cities and people but also with its cuisine. So I will go beyond telling about the cities to visit and tell you about the cuisine also. I also tried to understand Polish cuisine recipes.

As in most of the European countries, when you sit in the restaurant the waiter first asks what you want to drink. That’s why I thought it would be appropriate to start with drinks 🙂

Beer is the Number 1

In Poland, alcohol consumption is quite high. According to a World Health Organization study from 2016, the average annual alcohol consumption is 11.6 liters per person.

Beer in Poland

Although the local drink is So as you may guess, you can find a variety of beers in Poland. I think Tyskie is the most common and it is a good one.

Vodka Comes Next

Of course you should not forget vodka. The most famous ones are Zubrowka and Grasowka.

There Are Also Local Drinks

In some regions, local drinks come to the fore. “Goldwasser” consumed in Gdansk is probably the most famous of these. The name means golden water and if you look at the photo carefully, you can see the golden flakes floating in it 🙂 Polish usually consume this high alcoholic drink to warm up in the winter.

Beside from alcohol, I would like to mention the hot drinks you need in this country, which is a bit cold throughout the year 🙂

Tea Consumption in Poland

One of the things that surprised me in Poland was the ease of accessing tea. Cafes usually have fairly wide menu menus. I, as a tea lover, was quite satisfied with the situation.

In the meantime, I want to mention that Poland has the 9th place in annual tea consumption in the whole world, according to another study .

Coffee is popular here as well as everywhere. Therefore, I do not need to mention this issue in particular.

My Favourite

And now comes my favourite drink in Poland: Hot chocolate! 🙂

By chance, in a chocolatier we’ve found the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had. I can go back again just for that hot chocolate. We even went out just to drink hot chocolate late at night, with the E-Scooters I mentioned in my first Poland post.

Hot chocolte

By the way, the most famous polish chocolatier is Wedel. Don’t be deceived with Wedel, go for Karmello!

This is all about polish beverages. I think I rhapsodise for hot chocolate. But it was really great, what else can I do? : D
