Who Doesn’t Love Banana?
I don’t think there are many people who don’t like banana. As a child, we used to look forward to the winter months to see it on the shelves but now it can be found in the markets all year long and this fruit is the favorite of most of us with its sweet taste and soft texture.
Of course, the best is to eat local products in the season, to be able to stay away as much as possible from the chemicals to grow it off the season, or that it is exposed during the transportation from equatorial countries.
A Base In The Kitchen
But this is such a fruit, which we want to have in the kitchen every season, which we cannot stay away. Because it is used instead of sugar when it comes to sweetening recipes, as well as instead of eggs to keep the dough together. You can make great ice creams only by freezing the bananas or pass over you sweet craving by combining it one or two ingredients to have a guilt free treat.
That’s why I say; bananas are no longer just a fruit.
There is absolutely no limit to what you can do with bananas. The well-known banana cake, cookies, ice cream, chia pudding, cheesecake, pancakes, oatmeal… Especially with peanut butter and cocoa, it is a perfect match.
Bananas are one of the indispensables of vegan nourishment. For example, you can make great pancakes using only bananas, herbal milk and oatmeal.
Banana Is A Heathy Sugar Source
It is also a very good sugar alternative for those who try to avoid refined sugar and a great support to step into healthy nutrition, especially for children who love the banana already.
Ripes Are The Best
The most important trick in using bananas in the recipes is to choose the ripe ones. Because as the banana grows ripe, the sugar it contains and the flavor condenses. This is the trick to reduce the additional sweeteners such as dates, honey, maple syrup that might be used to support the taste. Also the banana aroma in the dessert gets stronger when you use ripe bananas.
Just Stock Them!
I usually buy a lot of bananas and wait for them to grow ripe at home. I’ve already stopped consuming it as a fruit, I use it mostly to make ice cream in the summer and to make cakes or cookies in the winter. When they are overripe and I am not able to turn them into a delicious cookie or cake, I basically slice them and throw into the freezer, and when I need a quick and healthy sweet treat, I make a wonderful ice cream by blending the frozen bananas with very little water or plant based milk. I add cocoa, strawberries, peanut butter to have different flavors.
Easiest No-Bake Bliss Balls
My favorite is these no-bake cookies, which require less than 30 minutes to be ready. Of course they are free of refined sugar and gluten, but packed with peanut butter and cocoa which make a great combination with banana. It is also very simple to adapt to the vegan diet. The actual prep time is around 7-8 minutes, the rest is to wait until they cool down and get firm 🙂
Banana Bliss Balls
- 1 medium overripe banana
- 1 tablespoon peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup for vegan)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- ½ cups of desiccated coconut
- ½ cup oats
- 1 tablespoon cocoa nibs (optional)
Smash the banana and mix with other ingredients to make a light dough. We put it in the freezer and cool it for about 15 minutes so that it is firm enough to shape. Then make small balls from the dough and let them sit it in the fridge before serving until they get firm. That’s all!
