A website I recently came across, caused me to stare at the screen. When I checked it detailed, I felt the need to write an article on this subject: Plant based meat!
An American company says it has discovered the molecular structure that makes meat “meaty” and combined it with plants to produce “plant based meat”. The goal here is to help reduce meat consumption worldwide.
Why reduce meat consumption?
Meat production is a very serious burden for the world and it has great environmental impacts. In fact, the biggest favour we can do for our planet is not to consume animal products.
For example, according to Peta, 2400 gallons of water is required for 1 pound of beef, while 244 gallons for 1 pound of tofu. This is not only water consumption, it also has an impact on agricultural land, air pollution, and ocean pollution. You can find the details in Peta’s official website.
Human health?
Today, many studies show that the excess consumption of animal products is the basis of many diseases, and many scientists agree that the path to a healthy life is a fresh vegetable and fruit based diet. Excess consumption of animal products is responsible for triggering many serious diseases, like cancer or alzheimer.
Plant based meat?
It was created by discovering the molecule that gives meat its texture and combining it with other plant compounds. Studies were already being done for the last couple of years by different companies, but the claim of this company is to discover that particular molecule and have the real meat texture.
But why?
Because there are too many people who love meat and don’t want to give up. They aim to satisfy the taste buds of meat lovers while leading them to vegan life.
How healthy is plant based meat?
This is, of course, very open to discussion. Everyone should read, research and make their own decisions. It is told that it contains natural products such as potatoes, soy, coconut and sunflower seeds, but it will eventually come out of the laboratory to your plate.
Would I Use it?
As a person who tries to consume the most natural of everything, I do not think that I will put a meat produced in the laboratory into my kitchen but I would definitely try for once 🙂
I don’t like meat very much, but if I feel like eating meat once a while, I try to find and consume as clean production as possible. That would be my advice to everyone.
If they were able to make a healthy, additive-free, preservative-free vegan cheese, maybe they could win my heart 😀
